They got married at Gary’s Loft in Midtown last November and right now they are off for their second wedding celebration in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They will then continue their travels for another couple of months throughout the world. Lucky bastards!

Images from the amazing photo booth setup can be found over at the Brooklyn Bride. The booth was set up by Tanveer and Jacob who recently launched a really cool venture called Oh Snap Smile.

I want to thank Abel and Jennifer for inviting me to document their wedding. It was a great day and I feel very fortunate to have witnessed many amazing moments.

In order to capture the day I decided to make this a two-parter. The next entry will be up in a couple of days.

I know. This one is not pretty. But dental hygiene is very important. I’m glad Mark knows that.

This is a lot more post production than I normally feel comfortable with. I increased the contrast and changed the hues, but I feel that it increases the surreal feeling of the ominous clouds. Luckily the clouds cleared up just in time for the wedding.

This beautiful ceremony and awesome party took place at The Metropolitan Building, across the river in Long Island City. The area around the reception venue is mostly small warehouses, car repair shop and taxi garages. On weekends the neighborhood is nearly deserted and you get the impression that you are the only people around with the Manhattan skyline looming above. Running around this part of town in a wedding gown and tuxedo is something special and offers an amazing contrast, and in my opinion, a photographers dream.

Inside the Metropolitan Building the floors open up into giant spaces reminiscent of a french chateau inhabited by some eccentric art collective. (Which I learned is not very far from the truth.) A truly unique spot in an otherwise forgotten part of our beautiful city.

Last year I started talking to the administrators at the Mission about exploring a photographic project. The idea has now developed and we are preparing for an exhibit this fall. More on this to come later in the summer.

The images below were taken last week when I brought some studio lights and a backdrop. Although the exhibit will be a documentary exploration of life at the mission I thought that these portraits help show some of the many faces that have inspired me so greatly.
